Artist’s Statement:

I love painting with watercolours, a master medium with which I first began indulging my love of drawing and painting as a child.

My very first exhibition – three decades ago – was illustrations of birds in watercolours. My artistic journey thereafter found me exploring other mediums such as oils, acrylics, mixed media and then – about a decade ago – I returned to my original medium.

Watercolours are magical. Their allure is multi-faceted, but it is the unique responsive spontaneity of the medium with its transparency and freshness that I find most fascinating.

My current exhibition is a tribute to this joyful yet challenging medium that I so enjoy working with. Elements of nature, such as birds, butterflies and animals surface alongside my signature muse of flowers and decorative porcelain. Collectively, they harmonise to create things of beauty. I believe where there is beauty, there is love and joy!

アーティストからのメッセージ

私は水彩絵具で描くことをこよなく愛しています。水彩は至上の絵具であり、子供の私に絵を描く楽しさを教えてくれました。

30 年前、初めて作品展を開いた時には、水彩で描いた鳥の絵を出展しました。その後、画家として 油絵、アクリル絵の具、ミクストメディアなどさまざまな絵具を追求しましたが、10 年ほど前に再 び水彩画の世界に戻って来ました。

水彩は魔法の如く、その魅力は多面的ですが、最も惹かれるのは、透明感と鮮度にあふれたこの絵具が独特なタッチで自然でのびやかな表現を可能にすることでしょう。

今回の個展はこのように私が深く愛する水彩という喜びと挑戦を秘めた絵具へのオマージュ( 讃辞 ) になっています。鳥、蝶、動物などの自然の生き物が私の絵を特徴づけるミューズである花や装飾 的な陶器と共に描き出され、調和のある美の姿を創り出します。そして美のあるところには愛と喜 びがあると私は信じています。

Mrinalini Singh

インドのヒマラヤ山脈の麓、シムラで生まれ、サンスクリット語で「蓮」という名前を持つ。1972年ー75年コルカタ大学文学士課程に在学・1987年デリー大学より文学士号取得・1990年London School of Journalism よりフリーランスジャーナリズムの学位を取得・1999年ー2002年ボゴタのアトリエにて画家、Armando Villegas の指導を受ける・2003年ー2004年ジャカルタにて世界的に名高い彫刻家、Dolorosa Sinagaに彫刻を、Teguh Ostenrikに絵画を学ぶ・2006年ー2008年東京にて日本画家、太田湘香氏に師事、墨絵と日本画を学ぶ・2008年東京のフォーシーズンズホテル・アートギャラリーにて個展 “Colors of Life”、東京のシティクラブ・オブ東京にて個展 “My Garden”・2010年ギャラリー サンカイビにて個展“Mrinalini 2010”、池田記念美術館(新潟県)にて個展“Empower”・2012年 サンカイビにて個展“Mrinalini 2012 ~ In the Moment ~”・2013年ギャラリー サンカイビにて個展 “Mrinalini 2013 ~ Art of Power ~”・2015年銀座三越にて個展 “Mrinalini 2015 ~ Joy ~”・2017年銀座三越にて個展 “Mrinalini 2017 ~ Awakening・2019年ギャラリー サンカイビにて個展 “FULL ○”
